2XIPA — Southern Tier Brewing Co.

2XIPA is a great entry into the world of Imperial (or Double) IPAs. Big juicy citrusy hops explode out of this golden brew with it’s generous foamy white head.  In addition to citrus peel, there are big tropical notes, touching on pineapple.  Plenty of biscuity malts are present too, to balance things out.  And here […]

Gueuze Cuvée René — Brouwerij Lindemans

An impressive gueuze, Cuvée René has tart sharp aromas of apples, red wine viengar and a touch of damp/musty hay.  Taste is more of the same, with quite a bit of tart acidity on the sides of the tongue and cheeks.  It’s not quite puckering, but is clearly sour.  More vinous vinegar and apples.  Mustiness […]

Schneider Aventinus — Weissbierbrauerei G. Schneider & Sohn

A very old-fashioned weisse. The aroma has lots of fruits, especially dark ones (raisins, berries). The taste comes in sweet with the fruits, then moves to a yeasty tart finish. At the time of posting, this beer carried a perfect 100 on Ratebeer.com

Red Racer IPA — Central City Brewing Co.

Central City Red Racer IPAOne of the most highly regarded breweries in Canada, Central City’s Red Racer IPA is a classic American/West Coast IPA, with big piney and citrus hops, astringent and nearly puckering.  Nicely bready malts glide under the surface, and keep things from getting too bitter, but you’ve got to look for them. […]

Liberty Ale — Anchor Brewing Co.

A classic brew. Anchor Brewing is considered by many to be the catalyst that sparked the American micro-brewery revolution (by no less a person than Fritz Maytag, heir of the Maytag appliance family). By today's standard's Liberty Ale is a fairly tame American-style IPA, but when it was first produced, there was no such thing […]
